Idiappam (Rice Noodles)

Idiappam or noodles, as my son calls it, is made very often at home for breakfast. It tastes yummy with veg stew or chicken curry.

Rice flour – 2 cups
Salt – 1 tspCoconut (grated) – 1 cup
Hot Water


  • Add salt to the rice flour and mix well.
  • Pour hot water to the rice flour. Knead well to get a smooth dough. 
  • Fill the Idiappam squeezer (seva nazhi) with the rice dough. 
  • Now squeeze small quantities of the dough into the idli moulds.
  • Add grated coconut followed by another layer of the dough.
  • Place the idli moulds into the idle cooker and steam well(approximately 8 to 10 mins.
Yummy Idiappams are now ready for serving. Kids love it with just sugar and no other side dish!!!
